I get this question a lot from people who are looking to perform dumbbell workouts but have just not taken that final step to buying their own set. “What Type of Dumbbell Set Should I Be Looking to Buy?”

The answer, is not an answer as such because the answer is whatever is best for you! I cannot answer this question. It is based on what is right for what you want to gain from your workouts.

There are thousands of different varieties of dumbbell on the market these days. Which ones are right for you is the tricky part of the equation.

If you are looking to build muscle then you are going to require heavy dumbbells that come with additional weights so that you can increment your workout to increase your strength and therfore your muscle mass.

If you are just looking to tone up your muscles you do not require as heavy dumbbells and you most likely wont require additional weights to accompany it.

There are also a number of different special types of dumbbell that you can use for a huge number of different activities. Take for example the really light weight dumbbells that you can use when jogging.

Weider PowerSwitch 12.5 lbs Adjustable Dumbbell Pair

Weider have always been a great maker of training equipment so when I bought a set of their dumbbell from Amazon I was expecting nothing less than their usual high quality.

And I was not disappointed. This excellent piece of equipment replaces 10 fixed weight dumbbells in seconds with the easily adjustable weights.

Here is how they work. On each side of the Weider PowerSwitch Adjustable Dumbbells there is a sliding switch that moves via spring loaded pin pulling it up. As you move the pin towards either side the dumbbell engages the weights. The pins are super easy to align  as there is color codes to help you out. When you pick up the dumbbell the extra weights you do not need remain in the tray.

I like a lot of customers thought that the plates would flop about the dumbbell during use but this was not the case. They are held quite firmly and then have little to no movement throughout use.

The grip is padded so you can use these dumbbells for a very lengthy workout if that is your cup of tea.

The dumbbells are very compact as well and are easily stored away when not in use and the extra weights do not rattle around they are all stored easily in the trays provided.


The general quality of these dumbbells is excellent and as with all the Weider products that I have bought and reviewed over the years I expect these to maintain their excellent quality for a long period of time their durability seems that good.

Overall I would recommend a purchase of the Weider PowerSwitch 12.5 lbs Adjustable Dumbbell Pair to anyone looking for a good dumbbell workout.
